When people talk about education access, they often focus on test scores, funding, or curriculum. But one issue that gets overlooked constantly is how students get to school.

For many teens, access to public transportation shapes everything: what school they can attend, what after-school programs they can join, and even whether they get there on time at all.

Transportation is not just a background detail. It is a gatekeeper to opportunity.

Some students walk long distances because buses do not come to their neighborhood.Others leave home at 5 a.m. to catch multiple transfers.A missed connection or delayed route can mean a tardy, an absence, or even detention.

And if you cannot stay late for tutoring or clubs because the last bus leaves at 4:30? That is not a scheduling problem. That is an equity problem.

Students in low-income areas are more likely to rely on public transportation.
