Civic Speaker Series Host Team

A chance for students to help plan and moderate live or virtual sessions featuring guest speakers on topics like education, equity, and mental health.

      The Civic Speaker Series Host Team is a summer leadership opportunity for students who want to be the face and voice of Mind On Civic’s upcoming event series. This role gives you the chance to moderate live speaker sessions, introduce guests, and guide thoughtful discussions on the issues Gen Z cares about most. It is offered both in-person and virtually.

Speaker

What You’ll Do

  • Co-host or moderate live speaker events with activists, educators, and youth leaders

  • Introduce topics and speakers in a clear, engaging way

  • Ask thoughtful questions and encourage audience participation

  • Help promote events and build excitement beforehand

  • Optionally write post-event recaps or reflections for Mind On Civic

Project Timeline (Tentative)

Early June
  • Interest Form Closes

  • Applicants are selected and notified

  • Intro email and Host Team welcome packet sent

Mid-June
  • Host Team Orientation (Virtual or In Person)

    • Icebreakers and introductions

    • What makes a strong host or moderator

    • Walkthrough of roles and expectations

    • Practice session: introducing a speaker, asking questions, running transitions

Late June – July
  • Event Prep Begins

    • Speaker bios and event themes shared with host team

    • Teams assigned to specific events

    • Personalized prep sessions (developing intros, Q&A questions)

    • Promotion planning (optional: social media help, flyer creation)

July – Early August
  • Live Events Begin

    • Hosts lead introductions, transitions, and closing remarks

    • Assist with audience questions or engagement

    • Optional post-event reflection writing or recap blurbs

End of Program
  • Receive certificate or letter of recognition

  • Option to stay involved with future Mind On Civic events or content

  • Feedback and reflection session

  • Incoming and current high school (grades 9 through 12), and college students who enjoy public speaking or want to build confidence

  • Anyone passionate about civic issues, youth voice, and media

  • No experience is required, just a willingness to speak up, stay organized, and show up
